Miami Jewish Home and Hospital
Help improve the quality of lives of our residents and tenants. Join hundreds of adults and teenagers who give their time, who give of themselves, who give an extra measure of care and compassion to those who truly benefit from a new, caring friend.
Our volunteers - like those who depend on their support - represent a wide range of cultural, religious and ethnic backgrounds. They may be retired who want to make a meaningful contribution to others. They may be college students and teens (over the age of 13) who want to learn from others or use their experience as part of their course work; or professionals and homemakers who want to share their expertise and their love.
Volunteer opportunities can be arranged at convenient times and include:
- Community Connection Program: Group volunteer activities and resident visit program held the first Thursday of every month from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. and held in conjunction with the Jewish Volunteer Center of the Greater Miami Jewish Federation.
- Friendly Visitor Program: One-on-one visits with residents
- Transporting residents in wheelchairs
- Entertaining residents (e.g. playing an instrument or singing)
- Helping out in our ice cream parlor or gift shop
- Assisting residents in our arts and crafts programs
- Letter writing for residents
- Providing clerical assistance
- Participating in religious and other study groups

Douglas Gardens Hospice
Douglas Gardens Hospice works as a team to ensure that our patients receive the best possible quality of life. We want those under our care to focus on those things that bring them happiness rather then dwell on their terminal illness.
By joining the Douglas Gardens Hospice team as a volunteer, you can help bring joy to our patients and their families. Our Volunteer Department offers various options: Administrative volunteers work closely with our office staff to provide vital services. Meanwhile, patient care volunteers visit patients throughout Miami Dade County and spend time with patients and their families and offer companionship and support.
Our patients benefit from such services as:
- volunteers who stay with them while their caregivers run errands
- visits from pet therapy dogs
- visits from volunteers who play music or read to them
- letter writing by volunteers
- receive blankets knitted by volunteers
If you are interested in participating in our volunteer program or have ideas on how we can expand our services please contact:
